Drought Support Workers

Western NSW Local Health District has been funded to provide a drought support program across the district until 30 June 2020, for which positions are open for applications. The new team will comprise of the following positions, working to connect with rural communities impacted by drought and provide support and linkage to clinical services where suitable. A personal experience of rural living and rural adversity (such as drought) and willingness to travel extensively is crucial.

Area covered by this program
  • 6 x Peer Workers – Mental Health Drought Relief Support Program (Site Negotiable): work directly with drought affected communities to provide on-farm (or as close to) support to individuals and communities and link to appropriate care as necessary, with personal experience of rural adversity/drought being crucial, plus understanding of impacts of stress and mental illness. Individuals do not need to be counsellors or clinicians, rather providing initial conversations and emotional support to people and link in to more clinical care as necessary.   • 1 x Senior Peer Worker – Mental Health Drought Relief Support Program (Dubbo): Provide oversight and support to peer workforce and program. Must have with lived experience and insight into mental illness PLUS rural adversity (Position ID – REQ79404)
  • 1 x Clinical Lead – Mental Health Drought Relief Support Program (Dubbo): Requires clinical qualifications and skills to oversee coordination of the team and provide clinical insight into supporting communities and individuals impacted by drought. (Position ID  – REQ79390).
